Serves 6-8
1 ½ cups brown sugar
¾ cup butter
¼ cup plus 2 tablespoons corn syrup
10 thick slices,” Texas toast” cuts of bread or 20 regular bread slices,
whole wheat or white bread
4 eggs
2-½ cups milk
¼ tsp. Salt
1 tsp. vanilla
** 2 –3 Tbs. sugar, mixed with a little cinnamon and nutmeg
In saucepan melt butter, brown sugar and corn syrup together.
Pour into a greased 9”X13” baking dish.
Arrange bread over brown sugar mixture.
(Use two slices of bread together, if you are using the regular sliced
breads, which is what I always use) Beat
the eggs, milk, salt, and vanilla together and pour over the bread. Cover and chill overnight. Sprinkle top with **sugar, cinnamon and
nutmeg mixture and bake @ 350 degrees for 45 – 50 minutes. Using a pancake turner flip over bread slices
on to a plate and serve with a spoonful of plain vanilla yogurt in the center
of each slice.
J Great for company or Christmas
breakfast!
